Amiskwaciwâskahikan - We are all on Indigenous Land
Buds Duds Apparel is established on Indigenous Land in Treaty 6 Territory. Originally home to many nations including Cree, Blackfoot, Metis, Dene, Nakota Sioux, and Saulteaux peoples, these lands are unceded Indigenous territory that has been occupied, travelled, and cared for by Indigenous Peoples since time immemorial to the present day.
We are grateful to be visitors on this land and will continue to produce work which reflects our values. One of our core values being “environmentalism” which is a colonized term taken from Indigenous practices.
Buds Duds Apparel is conscious of what we give and take to and from the space, community, and resources around us. Our business here is to remove the racist, classist, misogynistic, and other white “beauty” standards that have been enforced on us all. We acknowledge the space that we take as white artists and will be using our platform to serve and reflect our community.
We hope to extend our values and operate not only from our experience but to work in collaboration with all Buds. Thank you for believing in us and allowing us to to mirror the support that we have received.
We could not have expressed this message without the guidance and consideration of our friend, Dana Belcourt. Thank you for your continued support and kindness, we love you! Be sure to see Dana's artwork on their Instagram @dana_belcourt as she completes her Undergraduate at Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
